 Water Fest Sunday, October 12 , 200812-5 pmNorth Cove Marina, Battery Park City, NYCLearn More About Taking Back the Tap You are invited to Water Fest, a day devoted to celebrating New York City water - the water we drink, the water we play in, and the water that surrounds us. Join Riverkeeper & friends for a day of fun on the Hudson with paddling activities, live music, great food, wellness and relaxation tents, and New York's leading clean water advocates ready to answer your questions.   At 3pm at North Cove Marina,Riverkeeper’s Chief Prosecuting Attorney, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.; Hudson Riverkeeper and President, Alex Matthiessen; NYC City Council Speaker, Christine Quinn; and Executive Director of Food & Water Watch, Wenonah Hauter, will speak about NYC’s tap water and the growing movement to drink it and protect it. The bottled water free event will feature Riverkeeper and Food & Water Watch’s Take Back the Tap New York campaign. The Take Back the Tap NY campaign highlights the social, economic and environmental problems associated with bottled water and promotes NYC’s premier tap water over bottled water. It aims to raise awareness about  the importance of protecting NYC’s watersheds and securing increased funding for critical water infrastructure needs. Take Back the Tap NY goals:• Get one million New Yorkers to Take Back the Tap and choose tap water over bottled• Persuade 1,000 NYC restaurants to support tap water and take bottled water off their menus• Convince NYC to minimize bottled water consumption in all city buildings and facilities• Increase water fountain availability throughout the city• Secure passage and funding of the Clean Water National Trust Fund• Secure state and local funding for water infrastructure upgrades• Regulate disposal of pharmaceuticals to keep them out of our waterways• Stop the trend towards water privatization
