Flow in Atlanta

I just came back from Atlanta Georgia where paideia’s school was hosting a screening of Flow. I feel like mentioning this school as they are defenately showing an example of a green footprint:   The school has won LEED Gold Certification. They have a geoexchange system that heats and cools the new junior high using water that circulates through pipes buried 300+ feet underground. Because at those depths, ground temperatures remain constant, the water flowing through the pipes absorbs or emits heat, thereby cooling or heating the building through a heatpump. There are no water urinals in the men's bathroom and dual-flush toilets in all bathrooms. The plants are watered by wells and gray water collected from around campus. The sidewalks are whiter than normal concrete in order to reduce the heat-island effect. All interior and exterior paints are low-VOC. All fenestration is low-e coated. Nearly 90% of construction waste was recycled. Our Green Team is also starting a compost program that is open to the entire Paideia Community.   I also would like to mention The Georgia Environmental Division that among other things have to great programs:   1. Adopt A Stream program http://aesl.ces.uga.edu/aascd/home.html 2.Rivers Alive: http://www.riversalive.org/   And Lastly a young art student used flow for her art project see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/coraseymour/
